Refrigerator Repair
Needham kitchens run to large integrated Sub-Zero columns and classic over-under built-ins, most of them panelled to match the cabinetry during a rear-of-house renovation. Cooling loss, temperature drift, noisy condensers and blocked drains make up the bulk of the work.
How it gets described
The complaint, in the caller's words
- Refrigerator section drifting into the mid forties
- Condenser fan noise rising through the day
- Puddle appearing at the toe kick each morning
- Control panel warning that will not clear
On the visit
What is measured before a part is named
- Base grille off: condenser condition, fan behaviour and the temperature rise across the coil
- Fresh-food and freezer readings taken together, so a dual-system cabinet is read as two systems
- Defrost cycle proved end to end — heater, termination and where the meltwater actually goes
- Door gasket pull, hinge sag and panel alignment on a cabinet fitted with cabinetry fronts
What it costs
What drives the number
Flat $95 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
- Door gasket or seal replacement $280–$770
- Evaporator or condenser fan motor $320–$650
- Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor $290–$710
- Ice maker, water valve or supply line $280–$650
- Electronic control board $520–$870
- Compressor or sealed-system repair $980–$2,130
Ranges, not quotes. Which end of a band a job lands on depends on the part, on whether the cabinet has to come out of its opening to reach it, and on how that part is supplied for the model. The figure you are asked to approve is given before anything is dismantled. For comparison, a replacement cabinet of the same class runs $8,270–$21,280 for the appliance alone, before delivery, installation or panel work.

Long gravel drive and he still turned up when he said he would. The unit was cycling nonstop because a torn gasket at the lower hinge was bleeding cold into the room. New gasket, door realigned, quiet again.

Control panel kept flashing a warning we could not clear. He read the fault history, traced it to a thermistor reading well off, and swapped it. Simple in the end, but nobody before him had bothered to look.

Puddle at the toe kick each morning. Not a leak at all, but a drain line frozen solid at the back wall. He flushed it through and fitted a new grommet.
